Murray Torgeson

Murray E. Torgeson, 91, formerly of Ambrose and Crosby, most recently of Minot, passed away Monday, April 8, 2013, at a nursing home in Williston, surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Friday, April 12, 2013, at Ambrose Lutheran Church in Ambrose, with Pastor Ron Dahle officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Ambrose Cemetery provided by William Pery Makee American Legion Post #75. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m., today, April 11, at Stakston-Martin Funeral Home in Crosby and also Friday, one hour before the service, at the church. Honorary bearers will be the staff and residents of The View in Minot.

Murray was born in Grand Forks on March 17, 1922, to Alfred and Vanness (Cheney) Torgeson. He was educated at Colgan and Ambrose schools and attended one year at the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks.

Murray worked a year at the Duluth, Minn., shipyard before being inducted into the Army in March 1943. Murray served his country through November 1945, as a paratrooper in World War II throughout Europe.

Murray married Eunice Christianson in May 1947. They raised their family and farmed in the Ambrose area. In 1988, they moved to Crosby. Murray and Eunice spent several winters in Mesa, Ariz.

Eunice passed away in June 2000. Murray continued to live in Crosby and spent a few winters in Mesa. In September 2008, Murray moved to The View in Minot. He thoroughly enjoyed his new home and friends at The View.

Murray enjoyed watching any NBA or NFL game, working and playing on his computer and Facetime. He thought everyone should have an iPad, and was quite computer savvy for his age. He valued the time spent with his family he will be greatly missed.

He was a member of the Ambrose Lutheran Church, American Legion, Crosby Moose and Ambrose Township and elevator boards.

Murray is survived by: one son and four daughters: Keith (Anne) Torgeson, of Ambrose, Jean (Gary) Fagerland, of Everett, Wash., Debra Boldt, of Williston, Kathy (Joe) Radenic, of Ambrose and Maribeth (Bruce) Bergstrom, of Ray; brother, Sander Torgeson, of Santa Rosa, Calif.; grandchildren, Chad (Ania) Fagerland, Justin (Monika) Fagerland, Heather Morse, Bob Peterson, Shawn Peterson, Zachariah Boldt, Kylie Boldt, Casey Jo Radenic, Sonny Radenic, Austin Bergstrom and Keaton Murray Bergstrom; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Eunice; an infant daughter; and brothers, Elbert Robinson and Howard Torgeson.

Stakston-Martin Funeral Home of Crosby is in charge of arrangements.
