Steven R. Farstad, 56, Valley City, formerly of Minot, passed away Monday, April 1, 2013, in a Valley City hospital.
Steven was born Sept. 20, 1956, to Robert and Darline (Sherven) Farstad, of Berthold. He was raised in that area until he was 10 years old, then lived in Grafton from 1967 to 1985, when he moved to Tri-City Care in Stanley.
Steven moved to Minot in 1986 and received services with REM-North Dakota and day activities at MVAW. He lived in a group home until 1992, then moved into the ISLA program where Jerry Clark became his primary caregiver. In 2006, he moved into the home of Jerry and Cindy Clark, Minot. The past year he was a resident of the Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City.
Steven was known for his warm greetings, wonderful smile and outgoing personality. He loved taking part in dances, singing, camping, traveling, hunting, fishing and shopping. He attended activities at the 2nd Story club in Minot.
He was a member of St. Leo's Church, the 4:30 choir there, and the Knights of Columbus Council #9906. He enjoyed volunteering with the Knights, especially for the pancake breakfasts and turkey dinners. He attended many youth and teen activities. Steven enjoyed all sports and was a big fan of the Bishop Ryan Lions.
Those who shared in his life: brother, Terry and his wife, Karen, nephew Kyle and niece Kendra, all of Colorado; aunts, Rose VanEeckhout, Fargo, Arlene Sherven, Parshall, and Thelma Snippen, Minot; uncle, James Farstad, Malta, Mont.; and numerous cousins; and his foster family, Jerry and Cindy Clark and family.
Steven was preceded in death by: his parents; grandparents; and uncle, George Sherven.
Funeral: Monday, April 8, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot.
Burial: East Plaza Cemetery, Plaza, in the spring.
Visitation and vigil prayer service: Visitation will be today, Sunday, April 7, from noon to 5 p.m., with the vigil prayer service at 5 p.m., all at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
