MINNETONKA, Minn. - The Minot State University baseball team dropped its sixth straight game with a doubleheader sweep at No. 4 St. Cloud State on Sunday.
The Beavers (8-10 overall, 0-4 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) gave the only nationally ranked team in the NSIC all it could handle. The Huskies (19-2, 8-0) eked by with a 1-0 win in game one and broke a tie in the eighth inning of game two for a 4-2 win.
MSU senior pitcher Cole Stober pitched well in game one, giving up just five hits in five innings with five strikeouts. SCSU needed just one run and Travis Cariveau hit an RBI double in the fourth inning.
In game two, the score was tied 2-2 heading into the bottom of the eighth inning. MSU senior Jordan Gilmour singled to score junior Sean Arbaut. The tie was brief as Sean Borman hit a two-run home run off sophomore reliever Zane Sawyer in the bottom of the inning. SCSU closer Reese Gregory retired the next three batters, including the final two on strikeouts.
Gilmour finished the day 3-for-8 with an RBI and run scored. MSU junior Alex Fornshell was 3-for-3 in the second game and 4-for-6 on the day.
The teams meet in another doubleheader beginning at 9 a.m. today.
