Vera Verdell Peterson, 74, Bismarck, died Wednesday, March 13, 2013, in her home. Funeral services will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Bismarck, on Tuesday, March 19, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Craig Schweitzer officiating. Burial will be held at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, south of Mandan.

Visitation will be Tuesday, one hour prior to the service, in the church.

Vera Verdell Smith was born Oct. 6, 1938, at Deering. She was baptized and confirmed at Deering Lutheran Church. She graduated from Minot State College in 1958 with a teaching degree and taught school in the Bowbells School District.

Vera married Adolph "Pete" Peterson Jr. on June 19, 1960, in Kenmare. They lived there until 1967, except for a short time when she moved with Pete, who served in the Army from 1962-1963, at Fort Riley, Kan. They moved to Bismarck in 1967 and Vera worked for Haas International Sales and Service from 1967 to 1989. She then worked for Eide Ford in the Human Resources Department from November 1989 until January 2013.

Vera loved her church family at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, where she shared her beautiful voice in the church choir. She served on numerous committees, was a sponsor for new members, a greeter, and served on the Altar Guild.

Vera loved bowling and yoga with her girlfriends and enjoyed sitting down with a good book.

Vera is survived by: husband, Pete; her sons, Travis (Laurie) Zimmerman, Chicago, Ill., and Bart Zimmerman and fiancee, Nicole Goranson, Bismarck; grandchildren, Brian (Lauren), Brandon, Slater, Hunter and Breanna; and great-grandchildren, Logan and Addison; two sisters, Justin Pfeifer and Erma Kitzmann; two brothers, Omar Smith and Rod (Maryann) Smith; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and three sisters.
