Garlan Myers

Minot Daily News

Nov. 11, 1951-March 8, 2013

Garlan Myers, 61, Minot, formerly of Berthold, died Friday, March 8, 2013, at Trinity Hospital in Minot.

Garlan W. Myers was born Nov. 11, 1951, the son of Benton and Darlene (Gunderson) Myers, in Minot. He was raised and educated in Berthold, graduating from Berthold High School in 1971.

Garlan married Laurel J. Larson on May 4, 1974, in Ryder. They made their home in Berthold. He worked for Westlie Motor Company in Minot and later for Neshem/Peterson Construction in Berthold. In 1985, he started his employment with the Ward County Highway Department. They moved into Minot in 1997. He continued to work for the Ward County Highway Department and retired in 2011, after 26 years of employment.

After retirement he spent several months helping a dear friend rebuild his home after the 2011 flood. Garlan was always there if anyone needed him and always worried first about the people he loved.

He enjoyed fishing and camping at Lake Sakakawea with his family, riding motorcycle with his friends, and watching his favorite old westerns on TV. He also spent many hours tinkering with computers and helping friends and family fix theirs. One of the highlights of his year was deer hunting with his kids and grandkids. They not only hunted but spent many hours at the farm with his mom and dad. He was a very kind and gentle man and was very passionate about his grandkids, who always knew who to ask when they wanted something. "Papa" would happily oblige even if it meant running Kayla (the teenager) to the mall with a few extra dollars in her pocket, finding Bigfoot with Haylie, in front of the TV, or in the garage watching Cody make projects with his tools.

Garlan was the happiest when surrounded by his friends and family and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He will be in our hearts forever.

His loving family includes: wife of 38 years, Laurel, Minot; children, Danielle (James) Wilson, Garrison, and Jesse (Selena) Myers, Minot; grandchildren, Kayla, Cody and Haylie Myers; father and mother, Benton and Darlene Myers, Berthold; brothers, Garth Myers, Minot, Kevin (Judy) Myers, Minot, Kalvin (Shawna) Myers, Carpio, and Kurtis (Michele) Myers, Berthold; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Garlan was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Harvey (Ray) and Estella Myers; paternal stepgrandmother, Margaret Myers; maternal grandparents, Arvid and Adeline Gunderson.

Funeral: Wednesday, March 13, at 10 a.m. at Bread of Life Lutheran Church, Minot.

Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.

Visitation: Today, Tuesday, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
