Shirley Herrmann Toole, 75, Bismarck, passed away March 5, 2013, in Mandan. Services will be held Saturday, March 9, at 11 a.m., in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garrison. Burial will be at the Garrison Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Thompson Funeral Home, Garrison.
Shirley was born July 20, 1937, in Garrison, to Christ and Regina (Steinwand) Engel. She attended rural school and high school in Garrison.
On Dec. 4, 1953, she married her love, Reuben Herrmann, in Garrison. They had two daughters, Susette and Sandra.
Shirley was a talented entrepreneur. She owned and operated many businesses including a doll hospital and museum in Bismarck and also owned and operated Christmas Treasures in Bismarck. For many years she participated in Norsk Hostfest in Minot, where she sold many of her creations, including her one-of-a-kind Father Christmases, which are now located all over the world. Shirley enjoyed glass blowing, antique doll restoration, and her yearly road trips with her daughters and sisters, LaVern and Juanita. The newest joys in her life were her great-grandsons, Paxton and Reiler.
Shirley is survived by: her daughters, Susette (Chris) Kisling, Montgomery, Texas, and Sandra (Jerome) Kilber, Bismarck; grandchildren, Cory (Lacy) Kilber and Craig (Hailey) Kilber, Bismarck, Chris (Mindy) Kisling, Odessa, Texas, Jesse Kisling, Montgomery, Texas; great-grandchildren, Paxton and Reiler Kilber; brothers, DeWayne (Wanda) Engel, Garrison, Elmer Engel, Ravensdale, Wash.; sisters, Juanita (Leland) Grosz, Garrison, and LaVern Knutt, Clatskanie, Ore.; many nieces and nephews; and her very special friend, Nick Zander.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Christ and Regina Engel; husband, Reuben Herrmann; sister, Bernetta Lais; brother, Norman Engel; sister-in-law, Marlys Engel; and brothers-in-law, Mike Lais and Bob Knutt.
