Victor Scott Lamont, 24, of Lufkin, Texas, is charged with murder, attempted murder and two counts of. terrorizing after a shooting that left one man dead and sent a second to the hospital. (Judge) Nelson agreed to lower the bond to $50,000 with the condition that Lamont wear a GPS monitoring device and remain only in Harris County, Texas.
A Westhope man was shot and killed last week and another Westhope man is facing a murder charge. Timothy Mundt appeared in Northeast District Court Monday where Judge John McClintock set bond at 500-thousand dollars cash.
When Fargo police responded to a home shooting Tuesday night, it was reported as a suicide. But after further investigation, they arrested Ronald Rogers on suspicion of shooting and killing his wife, Elizabeth. Rodgers is being held on $1 million bail. If convicted of murder, he could face life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Recently we have heard about laws to toughen the drinking and driving issues. We voted to strengthen smoking issues. We want to legislate behavior we find unacceptable. I do not see how this can fully work. Here are demonstrations from across our fair state of three offenses. These three all include a common thread. Murder. What is uncommon? In one corner of North Dakota a man is accused of shooting two individuals, killing one and terrorizing others with a weapon. He got his bond reduced greatly ($50,000) and is now in Texas. The man in Fargo is accused of killing his wife in the opposite corner of the state and he gets a million dollar bond.
I personally do not see it as an issue in the strength of legislation, it is a judicial problem in uniformity and actually following the laws we have in place.
