BISMARCK (AP) - North Dakota's Senate has endorsed bipartisan legislation that would require the reporting of abuse or neglect of senior citizens and other vulnerable adults.

The Senate passed the measure 39-8 on Monday. The measure was amended to exempt clergy and lawyers from having to report the abuse.

Sen. Phil Murphy says North Dakota and Colorado are the only two states that don't require the reporting of abuse to elders or other vulnerable adults. The Portland Democrat says the measure is intended to protect seniors from physical, mental, sexual and financial abuse.
