The house that once stood along Second Avenue South, between Main Street and Owen Street in Des Lacs, was destroyed by fire Monday. The familiar smell of burning wood could be detected Tuesday afternoon as the remains of the structure still smoldered and smoked. The fire was called in at 10 a.m. Monday and fire crews remained at the site until 7 or 8 p.m. that night making sure the fire did not spread to surrounding structures, according to Mark Norby, the Des Lacs fire chief. No cause for the fire has been determined and the former residents are believed to be staying with relatives in Minot.
