DEVILS LAKE (AP) - A Devils Lake man is out $50,000 after being caught up in a sweepstakes scam.

Police tell WDAY-TV that the man, who is in his 80s, reportedly made several payments in the last few months to the phony company. He was told he won a $48.5 million, but he had to pay fees in order to collect the money.

Police say it's a common scam. The scammers used a legitimate company name in this case, but had money sent to a different address.
