Dale Butterfield

Dale O. Butterfield, 63, Plaza, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, in a Minot hospital.

Dale was born Nov. 1, 1949, at Minot, the son of Raymond and Jean (Snyder) Butterfield. He was raised on the family farm near Berthold and graduated from Berthold High School in 1968. He attended diesel mechanic school in Minnesota and returned to the Plaza area to work.

Dale was once married to Ruth Bendickson. From this union two children were born, Tammy and Adam. Throughout the years, Dale was employed by Atko Drilling, Wheeler Construction for 17 years, and most recently with Mountrail County for the past six years, where he worked out of the Plaza office with the road maintenance department.

Dale was very active in the Plaza Community, where he served on the Plaza City Council for 20 years, as well as on the Plaza Volunteer Fire Department for the past four years. He enjoyed restoring old cars and tractors along with riding his new Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

His loving family includes: daughter, Tammy (Tony) Zeltinger, Minot, son, Adam (Michelle) Butterfield, Watertown, S.D.; stepdaughter, Cheryl Haugerud, Minot; grandchildren, Cody, Kihley, Payton and Cooper; stepgrandchildren, Jenny Bothe, Ashley Zeltinger and Brett Zeltinger; stepgreat-grandchildren, Bryn, Wyatt, Sailor, Boedy and Kyson; sister, Judy (Jim) Stewart, Richville, Minn.; brothers, Ralph Butterfield, Makoti, and Clayton (Lynne) Butterfield, Liberal, Kan., along with several nieces and nephews.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents and stepdaughter, Lori.

Funeral service: Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, at 11 a.m. in First Lutheran Church, Plaza.

Interment: Wildrose Cemetery, rural Berthold.

Visitation: Sunday, Feb. 10, from noon to 5 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot, and one hour prior to the service in the church.
