WATFORD CITY - Ground will be broken about the middle of this month for a 120,000-square-foot retail shopping center, including Cash Wise Foods, in Watford City.
The Watford Plaza will be located at the intersection of U.S. Highway 85 and N.D. Highway 23, according to Oppidan Investment Co., a Twin Cities-based national property development firm.
Currently, the facility will include Cash Wise Foods, Cash Wise Liquor, Alco and the Hibachi Grill.
The size of the facility can change as tenants are added, according to company officials. The retail portion of the development is about $18 million.
The general contractor for the project is Rice Builders of Sauk Rapids, Minn. Site work started in August 2012. Construction of the building begins this month and it is expected to open in July.
Oppidan Investment's other properties in western North Dakota include The Gables I Apartments, a 42,200-square-foot facility with 36 units that were opened in November 2012.
Besides the Watford Plaza, Oppidan Investment's other projects under construction include The Gables II Apartments, a 42,405-square-foot facility with 36 units that is expected to be completed this month; the Pheasant Ridge Apartments, a 51,561-square-foot facility with 42 apartments expected to be completed in May; and Southgate Crossing, a 180,000-square-foot project on the southwest side of Minot that is expected to be completed in August.
Ground was broken in August 2012 for Southgate Crossing, a $109 million 50-acre complex with apartments, hotels, retail shopping and commercial buildings located along 31st Avenue Southwest. The site is north of the LaQuinta Inn and Baymont Hotel and Suites.
Current confirmed tenants for Southgate are Cash Wise Foods, Cash Wise Liquor, Petco, Shoe Carnival and Gordmans.
According to an October 2012 story in The Minot Daily News, Southgate will also have a Hilton Garden Inn Hotel, an Extended Stay Hotel and apartment units.
