Larry Rosencrans, 80, longtime Tioga businessman, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at the Tioga Medical Center.

Larry Allan Rosencrans was born Nov. 15, 1932, in Blaisdell, to Maurice and Maidie (Tossett) Rosencrans. The family moved to a farm south of Powers Lake in 1941. Larry moved to Tioga in 1952, working for various companies including Northern Mud Co., Volney & Waite and Basin Station. He later was employed by Westland Oil Co. of Williston.

Larry married Laura Jean Vannatta on Nov. 8, 1958, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bainville, Mont. They made their home in Tioga where they raised two children, Lana and Myles. Houck Transport later bought out Westland Oil Co. and Larry continued working there until 1965. It was then that he decided to open his own business, Tioga Parts Supply (NAPA) and enjoyed working there throughout his life. In 1986, Larry and Laura Jean, along with Wayne and Marguerite Grindy and Dick and Nancy Sundhagen, opened the Sportsman Cafe. Together they operated the cafe until 2000.

Larry was involved in many organizations throughout his life. He was a member of St. Thomas Church, ND Wildlife Federation and the Tioga Jaycees, where he received the Distinguished Service Award in 1967. He became a member of the Tioga Fire Department in 1963, holding various positions including fire chief. He became an EMT in 1975 and served many years with the Tioga Ambulance squad. Larry was elected to the Tioga City Commission in 1972, serving as president for 16 years from 1984 to 2000. He also served on the Tioga Airport Authority.

Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and family. He will always be remembered for his commonsense approach to life, his willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone and his deep calm voice that was so soothing in times of crisis.

Larry is survived by: his wife of 54 years, Laura Jean, of Tioga; daughter, Lana (Jim) Crowley of Longmont, Colo.; and son, Myles, of Tioga; grandchildren, Sean, Evan, Keaton and Julia Crowley, of Longmont; sisters, June (Archie) Gamble, of St. Louis Park, Minn., and Darlene Cvancara, of Stanley; along with many nieces and nephews.
