Joan Brooks

Joan Yvonne Brooks, 78, of Summerville, S.C., widow of Rolla Brooks, passed away on Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at Medical University of South Carolina.

Joan was born on March 16, 1934, in Lonetree, a daughter of the late Earl and Rose Mautz Nappen. Joan enjoyed reading, scrapbooking, doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles, playing computer games and watching NASCAR. She loved playing card games and was a seasoned pinochle player. Joan also collected postcards from various places. She was a member of the Berthold Senior Citizens and a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Berthold.

Surviving are: eight children, Debbie Peterson (Richard) of Billings, Mont., Jeff Brooks of Summerville, Greg Brooks (Jenny) of Summerville, Cindy DeBilt (Mike) of Berthold, Kelly Brooks (Mary Lynn) of Burlington, Melinda Brooks (Wayne) of Ridgeville, S.C., Monte Brooks of Bismarck, and Lisa Brooks of Minot; 16 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Farley of Sacramento, Calif.

She was preceded in death by one son, Glynis James Brooks and three brothers, Martin Nappen, Gene Nappen and Lowell Nappen.

Services will be private.
