MANDAN (AP) - A 30-year-old Bismarck man was accidentally shot by his friend during an altercation that police say might have been the result of road rage.

The accident happened early Saturday in north Mandan. Police say the victim and his friend, a 27-year-old man, were arguing with other people outside a residence after an earlier altercation at a gas station.

Police say the 27-year-old man removed a small-caliber rifle from a vehicle and it accidentally went off, striking the 30-year-old man in the thigh. The victim's condition is unknown.

Authorities tell the Bismarck Tribune that the investigation is ongoing.
