ROSEAU, Minn. - The Coon Rapids (Minn.) boys hockey team scored a goal late in the first period and goaltender Zack St. John handled the rest.
St. John finished with 42 saves, including 19 in the second period, to preserve his team's 1-0 victory Thursday against Minot High in the Roseau, Minn., tournament.
The Magicians (5-3 overall, 4-1 West Region) had more than twice as many shots on goal as Coon Rapids and came up empty on four power plays.
"We absolutely could not get anything past their goaltender," MHS coach Chad Burckhard said. "He made three ESPN-quality saves. ... He was extremely talented and we couldn't solve him all night."
Minot continues play in the tournament with a matchup against Lake of the Woods (Minn.) at noon today.
