John "Jack" Brown, 81, Berthold, passed away Monday, Dec. 24, 2012, at ManorCare Health Services in Minot.

John S. "Jack" Brown was born Feb. 18, 1931, the son of Harry and Mabel (Peterson) Brown, in Minot. He was educated and finished eighth grade in Berthold.

Jack enlisted in the Army on Jan. 28, 1953, and was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas. He was honorably discharged Jan. 27, 1955.

After serving his country, he returned to the family farm. He owned and operated Brown Construction with his brother, Jim.

Jack married Laurella (Bredahl) Taylor on Aug. 25, 1966, in Minot. They made their home in Berthold. For more than 30 years, he worked for Steen Construction until he retired in 2009. Laurella passed away on Nov. 18, 2003. He enjoyed farming, auction sales, playing cards and having a beer with friends.

He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Berthold and the Berthold American Legion Post #171.

Surviving family includes: children, Les (Robin) Taylor, Newcastle, Colo., Spencer (Stacie) Brown, Berthold, Amy (Dean) Pederson, Valley City, and David Brown, Tower City; son-in-law, Quinn Ellingford, Evanston, Wyo.; 14 grandchildren; brothers, Ralph Brown and Joe (Carolyn) Brown, all Berthold, Darrel Brown, Bemidji, Minn.; sister-in-law, Sharon Inman, Berthold; brother-in-law, Gene (Ellie) Bredahl, Berthold; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jack was preceded in death by: his parents; wife, Laurella; daughters, Roxey Ellingford and Teri Lee Taylor; grandson, Lance Tysse; brothers, Harold, Harry (JoAnn), Jim and Maynard; and sisters, Ruth (Joe) Berg, Jeanette (Mert) Schultz and Mae Brown.

Mass of Christian Burial: Saturday, Dec. 29, 11 a.m., at St. Ann's Church, Berthold.

Interment: Wildrose Cemetery, Berthold.

Visitation: Today, Friday, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
