Verna Bernice Sneva, 100, Minot, formerly of Grenora, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2012, at a Minot nursing home.
Verna was born on April 3, 1912, in Osnabrock, to Even and Axelia (Nordquist) Evenson. She was raised on a farm near Osnabrock, graduating from high school in 1930.
On Nov. 8, 1935, she married Gerhard "Gig" Sneva. They lived in the Osnabrock area for a few years before returning to Gerhard's childhood home to manage the family farm in Grenora. They had two children. Gerhard died in 1985, shortly after celebrating their 50th anniversary.
Verna and Gig were both musical. Verna played the piano and Gerhard would join her with his saxophone and spend many hours entertaining family with polkas, waltzes and popular songs of their day. Verna and Gig enjoyed traveling to Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Hawaii, and spent a few winters in California. In 2002, Verna moved to Minot and became a resident of Edgewood Vista.
Verna was involved in anything that involved crafting: oil and acrylic painting, sewing, and handwork. She was well known for her beautiful hardanger, entering contests and winning ribbons for several of her pieces. She was extremely talented and accomplished in her art. She also loved crossword puzzles and bingo. She was an active member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Grenora.
Verna was known for her warm, friendly personality and her love of fun. She was very well liked by all who knew her. She enjoyed raising her family and always put their needs first, supporting her children with all their endeavors. She continued on with that love to her grandchildren, who adored her.
