Loud TV ad law delayed for rural ND cable provider

December 24, 2012
Minot Daily News

FARGO (AP) - While much of the country is enjoying quieter commercials thanks to new federal rules, a cable provider in Valley City and Jamestown has been granted a waiver available to small companies.

That means subscribers of Cable Services Inc. will have to bear with commercials that are louder than the TV programs they're watching for at least a year.

The Fargo Forum reports that the Federal Communications Commission is giving smaller systems a pass on the deadline because the equipment that prevents TV commercials from blaring can be costly. It applies to companies with fewer than 15,000 subscribers.

Cable Services Inc. president Roy Sheppard says no one is offering a cost-efficient monitoring system.
