Bemidji 3s sink Minot State
BEMIDJI, Minn. - The Bemidji State University men's basketball team knocked down 14 3-pointers during a 73-63 win over Minot State on Saturday at the BSU Gymnasium.
Bemidji State (6-3 overall, 4-1 NSIC) only hit eight two-pointers, but the long-range bombs were enough to bury MSU.
"They beat us by 33 from beyond the arc," MSU coach Matt Murken said in a press release. "We won from the field on twos and at the foul line, but they hit too many jumpers."
Minot State took a 37-35 lead with 15 minutes, 37 seconds remaining, but BSU went on a 10-2 run to stretch the lead to eight. MSU (2-7, 1-4) never got closer than five points the rest of the game.
MSU junior guard E.J. Williams led all scorers with 24 points and Dominique McDonald and Anthony Enriquez added 11 each.
Bemidji State's Dermaine Crockrell scored 22 points and knocked down 5-of-8 from beyond the arc.
MSU has a holiday layoff before its next games at Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State on Jan. 4 and 5.

Second-half slide costs MSU
BEMIDJI, Minn. - The Minot State University women's basketball team squandered a double-digit second-half lead in a 63-51 loss to Northern Sun opponent Bemidji State on Saturday.
Junior forward Carly Boag registered a double-double with 17 points and a game-high 18 rebounds for MSU, which led 29-19 at halftime.
"We missed some layups and some free throws in the first half and it happened in the second half as well, but we turned the ball over too much in the second half," MSU coach Sheila Green Gerding said in a press release. "They (BSU) came out in zone and we didn't know where we needed to go."
Boag was the only MSU player to score in double figures. Senior guard Sacarra Molina and junior guard Alisha Jones each tallied nine points.
MSU (4-3 overall, 2-3 NSIC) led 44-43 with 7:30 remaining in the second half before BSU (6-3, 2-3) finished the game on a 20-7 run. BSU attempted 28 3-pointers and Morgan Lee and Shannon Thompson knocked down three apiece. Thompson finished with 17 points and Lee added nine.
MSU hosts Midland University (Neb.) at 7 p.m. Wednesday in a nonconference matchup.

DICKINSON - Minot High senior Jessie Kongelf recorded her second hat trick in a week as the Majettes crushed Dickinson 12-2 on the road.
Angie Lothspeich and Taylor Hooker also scored two goals apiece for the Majettes (5-2).
"We had a lot of shots and controlled the puck for most of the game, but the girls capitalized when they had the chance so it looks a little more lopsided," MHS coach Weylin Wahlstrom said.
Minot rattled off seven unanswered goals after Dickinson scored early in the second period. Majettes senior Hannah Thom posted 50 saves.
MHS plays at Bismarck at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Fix, Bahl lead Minot swimming
BISMARCK - Minot's Jeremy Fix and Ethan Bahl came away with wins and the Magicians placed second at the six-team Bismark Invitational on Saturday.
Fix edged Mandan's Nathan Berger in a battle of the West Region's top divers.
"It's a friendly battle those two have going on," Minot coach Jake Solper said. "It will be good to see how those two battle for the duration of the season."
Bahl had a nice showing in the 100-yard breaststroke, recording a personal best one minute, 2.2 seconds, shaving off three seconds from his previous time. Bahl also placed third in the 50-yard freestyle.
"He did what he needed to claim the top spot," Solper said. "A lot of our swimmers did very well today."
Later in the day Bahl teamed up with Luke Heilman, Jared Kramer and Ryan Swartwout to win the 200 freestyle relay.

No. 3 Huskies dominate MSU
ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The third-ranked St. Cloud State University wrestling team crushed Minot State 49-0 in a dual Saturday afternoon.
SCSU's Jared Kust defeated MSU's Josh Douglas 7-3 at 133 pounds, and MSU's Matt Fetterley lost 8-2 at 174 pounds. The Huskies (3-0 overall, 1-0 Northern Sun) won the rest of the matches by major decision, pin, or technical fall.
"We were missing three starters due to injuries and having to juggle the lineup really hurts," MSU coach Robin Ersland said in a press release. "As a program, we aren't as deep as we need to be. We just need to keep searching for guys who are willing to dedicate themselves to building this program.
"We just didn't have a good day today. They're pretty good, but not that much better than us to beat us 49-0."
The Beavers (1-2, 0-2) head to Phoenix for the Grand Canyon University duals on Jan. 5.

Turtle Mountain wins Dickinson Classic
DICKINSON - Turtle Mountain didn't need an individual champion to come away with a team title at the Dickinson Classic on Saturday.
The Braves, whose top finisher was second-place Terry LaVallie at 120, scored 199.5 points to get ahead of Mandan (171), Minot (165) and Williston (162) at the 16-team tournament.
Minot had a pair of champions with Nick Nesdahl pinning teammate Isaiah Crowe in the 285-pound title round, and Dayne Haman got past Steven Keeten of Hardin, Mont., for the 182-pound title.
"It was good to see our alternate (Crowe) advance," Minot coach Nolan Spooner said. "We had to bump some kids up and we continued to grow as a team."
Top-ranked Cody Haugen of Minot advanced to the 145-pound title round, but fell to Dawson County's Tyler Kinn. Kinn is a two-time state champion in Montana.
"(Haugen) beat Kinn in the summer down in Florida," Spooner said. "He returned the favor this time."
Williston's Paul Michaelson pinned Dawson County's Cole Bilbrey for the 160-pound title.
Minot entertains Jamestown on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Magic City Campus.
