Tony T. Brunner, 94, Minot, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, in a Minot hospital.
Tony was born Feb. 7, 1918, to Mike and Barbara (Kuntz) Brunner, near Minot. The family moved into Minot in 1921. He attended Harrison Township School and Minot Model High School. In 1936, he went into the Civilian Conservation Corps and worked in Idaho, Montana and North Dakota. He was honorably discharged from the CCC's in 1939. He then went to work for the Great Northern Railway Bridge and Building Department.
On April 9, 1942, he entered the Army. Tony served with the 103rd Infantry Division in the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant on Dec. 13, 1945, and returned to North Dakota, where he worked for several construction companies.
Tony married Grace Hennessy in 1952 at St. Vincent's Catholic Church, Des Lacs. They were happily married for 60 years. Following their marriage they moved to Sanish, where he worked on the Four Bears Bridge, and later moved to Tioga, where he worked on housing. They later moved back to Minot, where he worked for several construction companies. They were blessed with three children. He also worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and later worked at Minot Air Force Base, where he was supervisor of ousing and maintenance until retiring in 1980.
He was a charter member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Minot. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, American Association of Retired Persons, National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association and was a former member of the Minot Moose Lodge.
Tony loved spending time at his home at Strawberry Lake with family and friends. He was a practical joker and prankster, playing a joke or prank on someone all the time. He loved to hunt and fish and was very musically inclined.
Those who shared in Tony's life: Wife, Grace, Minot; children, Donald (Dianna) Brunner, Billings, Mont., Renee Brunner, Moose Lake, Minn., and Richard (Sue) Brunner, Minot; grandchildren, Nescha (Matt) Lee, Nicole Milton, and Shyla (Ed) Bradshaw; great-grandchildren, Jameson Lee, Connor Milton and Eric and Avery Bradshaw; brother, John (Ethel) Brunner, Bismarck; and many nieces and nephews.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Mike, Leo, Frank, Ed, Rose, Mary, Lena and Katherine, along with two infant siblings; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral: Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, at 10:30 a.m., in St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Minot.
Visitation and vigil prayer service: Visitation will be Friday, Dec. 14, from 3 to 7 p.m., with the vigil prayer service Friday at 7 p.m., both at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Burial: Saturday, 1:15 p.m., at Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
