Katherine Duchscherer, 93, Minot, formerly of Velva, was born into eternal life Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, in a Minot nursing home.

Katherine Thomas was born June 26, 1919, a twin daughter of Michael and Magdalena (Schumacher) Thomas, on the family farm near Verendrye. She was raised and educated in the Verendrye area.

Katherine was united in marriage to Peter Duchscherer on Nov. 11, 1941, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Karlsruhe. This was a double wedding shared with her twin sister, Annie Marie. Following their marriage, Peter and Katherine made their home in Velva, where she was a homemaker and devoted mother. Katherine was an excellent cook and made every meal special. Katherine enjoyed nature, flowers and her vegetable garden. Peter passed on Jan. 13, 2001, after 60 years of marriage. Katherine continued to live in their home in Velva.

Katherine was a very active member of the St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Velva, where she was a member of the Christian Mothers and served as president of this group on multiple occasions. She was also active with the church altar society, and taught catechism for 33 years.

Katherine enjoyed playing cards, sewing, crocheting, reading, and gardening. At the age of 83, Katherine took a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Europe with her daughter and her family. The highlight of the trip for Katherine was when she saw Pope John Paul II.

Surviving family includes: children, Robert (Marilyn) Duchscherer, Jamestown, Michael Duchscherer, Jamestown, and Bernardine (Gary) Hall-Bailey, Minot; six grandchildren, Tammy Falk, Todd Duchscherer, Troy Duchscherer, Andrea Hall, Michael Hall and Jason Hall; eight great-grandchildren: six great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Katherine was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Peter; great-grandson, Trevor Duchscherer; son-in-law, Michael Hall; brothers, John, Philip, Wendelin, Joe, Andrew and Michael; and sisters, Elizabeth, Helen and Annie Marie.

Funeral: Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at 11 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Velva.

Interment: Holy Cross Cemetery, Velva.

Visitation: Today, Dec. 7, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, and today from 2:30 to 5 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Velva.

Vigil prayer service: Today at 5 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Velva.
