The second annual Anamoose Christmas Home Tour will be held Sunday, Dec. 9, from 3 to 6 p.m. Five homes are included in the event, sponsored by MainStreams LLC, which is working to preserve the town's historic bank.
The Angeline and Emanuel Kesler home was built in 1947 with concrete blocks and originally covered with stucco. It includes a round corner in the living room made from glass blocks. Angeline has an angel collection, and Emanuel has a garage with several vintage cars that he restored.
Across the street from the Kesler home is Doc's Lodge, the family home of the late Gus and Julie Dockter, built during the 1940s. The family has renovated the home and rents it as a hunter's lodge. It is decorated with holiday lights, with a quirky moose in the front yard.
The Dockter home, now used as a hunter’s lodge, is one of the featured houses.
The Matt and Therese Rudnick home in Anamoose is decorated inside and out for the Christmas Tour of Homes.
In the northern part of town is the longtime home of Matt and Therese Rudnick. Therese has a collection of nativity scenes, and Matt has an extensive offering of mechanically correct and wooden implements made to scale, such as an oil derrick, that he has made by hand.
Just south of the City Park on First Street East is the home of Bill and LaDonna Goodwin. The home will feature traditional holiday decorations as well as LaDonna's cookie jar collection.
Back by popular demand from the 2011 Tour of Homes is the Alyce and Vernon Heer home, which is filled with Alyce's handmade quilts and Vernon's extensive John Deere collection.
Also back by popular demand are the holiday fancy dessert and beverage bar, holiday baked goodies sale and the holiday decorations sale table. In addition, there will be a soup and bread supper. All are offered to the public at 409 Main St. without the need to buy a tour ticket.
This year's drawing prize is a lushly decorated antique sled. Tickets can be purchased at the event and one need not be present to win. The drawing will be at 6 p.m.
Tour tickets are $10 in advance or $12 on the day of the tour. Advance tour or door prize tickets are available at Heringer Lumber or First State Bank in Anamoose, Hair Oasis in Drake and Que Sera, HAV-IT and Sarah's Grooming in Harvey. Maps will be available the day of the event at 409 Main St.
