Bomb threats aren't funny. They aren't cute. They aren't cool. They're a criminal act, and perpetrators deserve to be prosecuted and punished to the fullest extent of the law.
Monday's bomb threat at Dakota Square is just the latest example. There have been similar bomb threats at area schools, and other area businesses through the years. All such threats require a quick and complete reaction from area law enforcement officials.
Monday's phoned-in threat to the mall required a massive evacuation of people and the closure of countless stores at the mall while law enforcement officials thoroughly searched the premises. The building was eventually declared safe and the stores reopened and no one was reported injured, but the damage has been done. Somewhere, the perpetrator is likely snickering, reveling in the chaos caused by the ill-advised phone call.
We hope those responsible for Monday's threat are caught and prosecuted, and we hope their arrest and punishment serve as a reminder to others who believe that making bomb threats is cool or funny. Eventually, you will be caught, and you will pay the price for your actions.
