Our Redeemer's thumps Sawyer to start season
SAWYER - The Our Redeemer's Christian School boys basketball team got its season off to a proper start on Saturday.
The Knights topped Sawyer 69-49 behind 21 points from junior Micah Jacobsen. ORCS scored 45 points in the first 16 minutes and coasted in the second half.
"We definitely got out and ran hard the first half," Knights coach Jeremy Feller said. "We got to the foul line 17 times because I think we wore them down."
ORCS plays at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at TGU.

Majettes fall to Grand Forks Central
GRAND FORKS - The Minot High School girls hockey team couldn't continue its winning ways on Saturday, dropping a 6-0 decision to Grand Forks Central.
The Majettes (2-1) were outshot 50-7 by a Central team eager to put the puck on net.
"The size and the strength of Grand Forks was key," Minot coach Weylin Wahlstrom said. "Coming into the game we knew it was going to be a rough game."
Minot returns home to host Jamestown at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Maysa Arena.

MHS wins season-opening gymnastics meet
FARGO - Senior Samantha Huether placed first in two of five events and the Minot High School gymnastics team won the five-squad Eagle Invite on Saturday at Fargo Gymnastics Center.
Huether finished with the best all-around score with 35.350 points and also finished first in the vault event.
"We were very impressed with Sam," coach Robbie Werchau said. "She did everything we asked her to do. She was confident. I told her she made everything look easy."
MHS freshman Hannah Werchau won the uneven parallel bars event with a score of 9.100.
The Majettes finished with a team score of 137.100, more than six points ahead of second-place Valley City, which finished with a score of 130.475.
All four of Minot's gymnasts placed in the top six in the all-around.
"We were very pleased with the girls' performance," Werchau said. "We have some nagging injuries we have to address, but overall I was very happy with the way the girls performed today."
The Majettes travel to Dickinson for the Dickinson Invite at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.

Minot High pins down second-place finish
JAMESTOWN - The Minot High School wrestling team placed second in the eight-team Knights of Columbus tournament on Saturday.
The Magicians finished with a score of 143.5, 4.5 points behind first-place Moorhead (Minn.).
"Jorey Bartsch stepped up big and won the title at 126 pounds," MHS coach Nolan Spooner said. "Cody Haugen beat the No. 1 pre-seeded wrestler at 145 and the No. 2 pre-seeded wrestler."
Spooner said the seniors led the Magicians throughout the tournament. Demetreaus Roby won at 220 pounds, pinning Fargo South's Cody Nielsen in one minute, 58 seconds.
MHS had three wrestlers win their respective weight classes, one place second and three finish third.
The Magicians travel to play Bismarck Century at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Beavers crush fourth-ranked Ohio University
ATHENS, Ohio - The Minot State University men's club hockey team made sure it didn't let a big lead slip for a second consecutive night.
The fifth-ranked Beavers (12-4 overall) scored the first four goals of the contest and cruised to a 7-1 victory over fourth-ranked Ohio University (16-4) on Saturday at Bird Arena.
MSU received goal contributions from six different skaters, including two from junior forward Garrett Ferguson.
"This is how we should have played last night," MSU coach Wade Regier said in a press release. "We came out and set the tone from the beginning. This was one of the biggest wins in the program's history and I'm glad we made the statement to the country."
Junior goaltender Wyatt Waselenchuk finished with 24 saves to earn his sixth victory this season.
The Beavers return home to play in-state rival Williston State College at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Maysa Arena.

Three Beavers place in wrestling open
Moorhead, MINN. - Minot State University junior wrestler Matt Fetterley took fourth in the 174-pound weight class at the Minnesota State-Moorhead Open on Saturday. Also placing were Jack Murphy (197 freshman division) and Flynn Stormer (141 freshman division)
MSU hosts the University of Mary at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
