Carl Orland Opstad, 86, passed away Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at Legends Assisted Living in Topeka, Kan.
He was born March 7, 1926, in Douglas, the son of Daniel and Turid Opstad. Carl was a World War II and Korean War veteran who later worked at the Department of Agriculture for 35 years until his retirement in 1988.
Carl was married to Irma Helen Bauer on July 21, 1957. She passed in 1991.
He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and later a member of Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Fairfax, Va.
Survivors: son, Dean, Topeka; and sister, Thea Otterson, of Roswell, N.M.
Carl was preceded in death by a son, David; his brothers, Drang and Bjorgo; and by his sisters, Borgy, Bessie and Signe.
A memorial service will be held Monday, Dec. 3, at 11 a.m., in Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts in his name to the Wounded Warriors Project.
