Majettes place third at state swim meet
BISMARCK - The Minot High School girls swimming and diving team finished third at the 14-team state meet Saturday at the Bismarck Aquatic Center.
Freshmen Emily Hamel and Cassandra Askvig finished fourth and fifth respectively in the 50-yard freestyle and the Majettes placed third in the 200 freestyle relay.
The Majettes finished with a team score of 266, while Fargo North won the state title with 386. MHS coach Dan Hinton said his team was happy with the results.
"They met my expectations and then some," Hinton said. "I knew we could get in the top three this year. Going into state it looked like fourth was getting more realistic for us as a team."
MHS did not have a swimmer place in the top three in any of the eight invidual events.
MHS junior Sarah Bogenrief, sophomore McKenna Brown and Hamel were named first-team all-state. Askvig and sophomores Alexis Clark and Sydney Clark were second-team selections.
