Gordon Evenson, 78, Granville, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, in a Minot hospital.

Gordon was born Oct. 9, 1934, a son of Edwin and Ida (Hovland) Evenson, in Noonan. He was raised and educated in Noonan.

Gordon enlisted in the Army. He proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict, serving as a fleet mechanic until his honorable discharge.

In 1958, Gordon was united in marriage to Colleen Brumfield. To this union three sons were born. The couple later divorced.

On April 26, 1973, Gordon was united in marriage to Barbara (Boser) McGuire in Anderson, S.D. They made their home in Minnesota until 1976, when they moved to Berthold. In 1979, they moved to Granville.

He worked various jobs as a mechanic, custodian, small engine repairman, and in construction, but for the last 21 years was well known as a Walmart greeter.

Gordon served as a volunteer for the Norsk Hostfest for several years, and was also a member of the Granville Volunteer Fire Department.

Gordon is survived by: Wife of 39 years, Barbara, Granville; children, Gordon (Jenny) Evenson, Hutchinson, Minn., Alan (Diana) Evenson, Shakopee, Minn., Steven (Laurie) Evenson, Burnsville, Minn.; stepchildren, Renee (Michael) Sobania, of Becker, Minn., Debbie (Heidi Elkins) McGuire, Granville, Cecil McGuire Jr., Granville, Patrick McGuire, Granville; 17 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Jerome Evenson, Williston: sister, Norma Norby, Williston; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Gordon was preceded in death by his parents; stepdaughter, Robin McGuire; brothers, Donald and Marlyn; and a sister, Adeline Roness.

Funeral service: Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at 10 a.m., in First Lutheran Church, Granville.

Burial: Granville Community Cemetery, Granville.

Visitation: Friday, Nov. 9, from 2 to 7 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
