It's Election Day, and we encourage all eligible voters to take the time to cast their ballot and be part of the election process. The system works only when citizens are heavily involved.
Certainly, results are what people will be looking for tonight, as Americans across the country vote for their favored candidates in races from president to senator to governor to county commissioners. The future of the nation will be shaped by the votes cast today.
There are also issues and races important to Minot's future on the ballot today. The makeup of the Ward County Commission will be determined today, as will lawmakers who will represent their districts at the 2013 North Dakota Legislature. Statewide and local measures have garnered a great deal of interest, too, and we eagerly await the results of those measures.
We were encouraged by the number of people locally who voted early. For those eligible voters who haven't cast their ballots yet, please take a few minutes out of your busy schedule today to vote in your precinct. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in Minot.
We're glad the campaign season is over, bringing an end to the constant bombardment of phone calls, door-to-door visits and other forms of campaigning, much of it nasty and negative.
Today is the chance for voters to let their voices be heard. Please exercise your right today and vote.
