Area students make strong showing at math contest

Area students won awards at a math competition held Oct. 25 at Dakota College at Bottineau. Students from Dunseith, Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood, Rugby, Drake-Anamoose, Bottineau, Velva and Turtle Mountain Community High School in Belcourt competed.

Winners included:

Algebra I, individual event winners: Marcus Mack, Velva, first place; Brad Heidlebaugh, Rugby, second place; Isaac Effertz, Velva, third place.

Geometry individual event winners: Braden Pewe, Bottineau, first place; Brad Heidlebaugh, Rugby, second place; Bruce Florence, Velva, third place.

Advanced math individual event winners: Dallas Osborn, Velva, first place; McKayla Gourneau, Turtle Mountain, second place; David Larson, Rugby, third place.

Winning teams included Velva (Dallas Osborn, David Larson, Marcus Mack, Aric Miller), first place; Turtle Mountain (McKayla Gourneau, Joseph Cluett, Sarah Lavallie, Waylon Decouteau), second place; Rugby (Tashal Trottier, Nigel Hageness, Brad Heidlebaugh, Ashley Schmaltz), third place.
