Bruce Brooks, Minot
I was disappointed but not surprised by The Minot Daily News' endorsement of Rick Berg. Disappointed because Berg was clearly not supportive of Minot during his time in the N.D. legislature, and has not been supportive during his Congressional term. Disappointed because he continually dodged debates and public forums during the campaign.
Also disappointed since he chose to continue the gridlock in Congress by signing the Norquest pledge and following his party leaders in their vow to not support anything substantial offered by the Democrats or the President.
Based on his record, I suspect that he will extend his non-support of the Minot area to not supporting North Dakota if he ends up in the Senate. His leaders probably will change his mind if in fact he leaned toward support. He has already supported privatizing Social Security and has supported the destructive Ryan budget that will make medical coverage less available and more expensive.
But North Dakotans have regularly voted against their best interests and pocketbooks. It would be beneficial to see that change.
