Beavers beat Bemidji in straight sets
BEMIDJI, Minn. - The Minot State University volleyball team avenged an earlier loss to Bemidji State University with a three-game win Saturday.
The 25-23, 30-28, 25-19 victory marked MSU's first road win in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
Freshman outside hitter Mallory Sall led the Beavers (6-20 overall, 2-14 NSIC) with 22 kills. Sophomore setter Emily Byrne had 30 assists.
"In my opinion, Mallory had her best outing of the year," MSU coach Travis Ward said in a press release. "Getting 22 kills in three sets is not easy and she did a great job of minimizing her errors today."
The Beavers host Northern State University (S.D.) at 7 p.m. Thursday in their final home match of the season.

New Town boys win cross country state meet
DICKINSON - The New Town boys cross country team dominated the Class B field Saturday at the state cross country meet at Heart River Golf Course.
New Town finished with a team score of 64, well ahead of second place Grafton (147). Ryan Wheeling led the Eagles with a seventh-place finish in 17 minutes, 26 seconds. Velva's Daniel Kuntz finished third (16:16) and Parshall's Dailray Connor was fourth.
Rugby finished second in the girls Class B meet behind Hillsboro-Central Valley. Surrey placed fifth.
New Town's Symbria Bell finished second individually with a time of 15:48, four seconds behind Dakota Prairie's Ashley Perez.
Bismarck High won both the girls' and boys' Class A meets, and Demons runners also finished at the top individually. Brittany Brownotter won the girls' race in 14:47 and Jake Leingang won the boys' race in 15:09, nearly a minute ahead of the second-place finisher.

Minot High volleyball swept by Dickinson
The Minot High School volleyball team lost two close sets to close out a straight-game loss against Dickinson on Saturday at Magic City Campus.
After dropping the first set, 25-16, the Majettes lost each of the final two sets by two points in the 3-0 defeat.
Senior middle blocker Morgan Milbrath led MHS with nine kills and sophomore outside hitter Brooke Suko finished with eight.
Senior outside hitter Aubrey Wunderlich had a team-high nine digs.
The Majettes (11-18 overall, 2-6 West Region) travel to Williston at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

MHS swimmers win invite
JAMESTOWN - The Minot High School girls swimming and diving team placed first at the seven-team Marney Shirley Invite on Saturday at Jamestown High School.
The Majettes finished with a team score of 536, 153 points more than second-place Williston. MHS took first in the 400-yard freestyle relay and eighth-grader Emily Hamel won the 50 freestyle.
"Overall we had a great day in Jamestown," MHS coach Dan Hinton said in a press release. "We finished the day with a big win in our last meet before regionals and state. This meet was a good confidence booster for us."
The Majettes dominated the 200 freestyle, finishing with six of the top eight spots in the event.
MHS heads to Bismarck for the West Region meet Saturday.

Beavers rout Williston State
A few days removed from a shocking loss at Williston State College, the Minot State University men's club hockey team exacted some revenge with a 9-0 win over the Tetons on Saturday at Maysa Arena.
The Beavers (9-3) scored three goals in each period and sophomore goaltender Riley Hengen made 29 saves to earn the shutout.
MSU senior forward Brett Fiddler and sophomore forward Logan Herauf each tallied two goals.
"This is the way Minot State hockey was supposed to play," MSU coach Wade Regier said in a press release. "We came out and established our forecheck and dictated the play. We were able to play a full 60 minutes."
MSU hosts WSC on Saturday, Nov. 10.
