Stewart named Bishop Ryan softball coach
The Bishop Ryan Athletic Department announced Wednesday that Julie Stewart has been hired as the new softball coach.
Stewart also serves as Ryan's basketball coach and will continue that role, according to the athletic department.
Stewart replaces long-time coach Fred Mueller, who announced his resignation in the spring. Mueller coached the Lions for seven years and begins his first season as Minot State University's assistant softball coach this year.
The Lions finished last season as West Region champions and State A runners-up.

Williston State shocks Minot State hockey
WILLISTON - The Minot State University men's club hockey team was unable to come back from a two-goal deficit entering the third period, losing 2-1 to Williston State College on Wednesday.
MSU sophomore forward Mike Jordan scored with 12:51 remaining in the third period, but the Beavers (8-3 overall) could not find the game-tying goal against WSC sophomore goalie Cory McMahon.
McMahon finished with 35 saves.
"Williston State played a great game," MSU coach Wade Regier said in a press release. "They set the tone in the first and second periods. We dug ourselves a hole that we couldn't get out of."
Sophomores Ian Harvie and Dwight Lee registered goals for the Tetons.
The Beavers host WSC at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Maysa Arena.
