Berg good for small business

October 21, 2012
Minot Daily News

Bill Butcher, Bismarck

A recent political ad features Jonathan Bry stating that Rick Berg has never done one thing for small businesses in North Dakota.

I don't know Bry's business experience or current business, but from the backdrop in the ad it appears he has quite a substantial operation. I remember Jonathan as being a nice fellow who worked across the hall from my office in Bismarck for the Sierra Club back in the early 2000s.

From 1998 through 2007 I was state director for the National Federation of Independent Business in North Dakota and my take on Berg is entirely different than is Jonathan's. I can say, based upon those years of personal experience, that Berg, as majority leader in the North Dakota House, was the hands down best friend small business had in the Legislature. He listened carefully to the concerns of small business owners and worked hard on behalf of their interests. I'm glad that both NFIB and the U.S. Chamber now endorse Berg in his race for the U.S. Senate because he deserves it given his stellar record in support of their members.

Just want to set the record straight.
