It's hard to tell who won the debate between Vice President Joe Biden and Republican challenger Paul Ryan. The two candidates were so busy interrupting each other during the 90-minute debate that neither made much of a lasting impression on us.
Well, Biden did make somewhat of a lasting impression, but not for the right reasons. He guffawed. He laughed. He harrumphed. He interrupted. He chuckled. He was good old folksy Joe Biden, dismissing answers from Ryan by calling Ryan's answer "a bunch of stuff." When pressed to explain what that meant, Biden brushed off the request for a clear definition by saying "We Irish call it malarkey." Funny, but not exactly enlightening.
Ryan certainly wasn't perfect, either. He interrupted Biden repeatedly. He smiled or shook his head when Biden was speaking. He talked over the vice president at times. He rattled off endless streams of statistics with all the emotion of a Terminator.
We're not sure either man accomplished much of anything. Ryan didn't make himself much more likable or human, and Biden didn't make up for President Obama's lackluster performance in the first presidential debate. We'll call the vice presidential debate a draw and hope for better next time.
