Beavers complete weekend sweep

DULUTH, Minn. - The Minot State University women's soccer team scored a goal just before halftime Saturday and held off host Minnesota-Duluth for a 1-0 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference win.

The Beavers (8-3-1 overall, 6-3 NSIC) scored with 30 seconds remaining in the first half when senior midfielder Lexy Kidd found the back of the net. MSU coach Jason Spain said junior forward Jamie Council forced an MSU throw-in deep in Duluth's end and tossed the ball to sophomore forward Zoe Fisher, who set up Kidd.

"Zoe always gathers a crowd, so she laid it up for Lexy and she just blasted it in from 20 yards out," Spain said.

The Bulldogs (4-5-2, 3-4-2) forced MSU senior goalkeeper Marie Torres to make 10 saves, in addition to a huge play at the end of regulation.

"With about four seconds left, she went in above four of their girls and gathered in their last corner kick," Spain said. "They undercut her and she landed hard. It was just a quality play."
