WILLISTON - In its last meet before Saturday's West Region meet, the Minot High School boys cross country team took third place at the Heen/Ihmels Invite.
Magicians junior Andrew Beach was the Magicians' top runner, finishing in 11th place in a time of 18 minutes, eight seconds. MHS coach Aaron Klingbeil said that because of a mistake made by the lead golf cart, runners ran a longer course than usual.
Sophomore Chris Stock and junior Billy Sartwell also finished in the top 20. Williston won the meet, with Bismarck Century placing second. Klingbeil said Bismarck High, which finished fifth, didn't run its top runners. He also said that if his team wants to finish in the top five at the state meet, beating Century might be necessary.
"If we finish behind Century we're going to be hard-pressed to beat them at state," Klingbeil said.
The West Region meet is at 1 p.m. in Jamestown on Saturday.
