Motorcycle-trailer sideswipe accident results in fatality

A motorcycle-trailer accident resulting in a fatality occurred Sunday at 2:40 p.m., about 8 miles north of New Town, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol and the Mountrail County Sheriff's Department who investigated the crash.

Brandon Bunnell, 29, New Town, was driving a 1998 Triumph motorcycle, traveling west on N.D. Highway 1804. Bradley Courtwright, 57, Lincoln, Calif., was driving a 2012 Freightliner straight truck and tanker trailer and also was traveling west on N.D. Highway 1804. Bunnell lost control of his motorcycle when he went to pass Courtwright, and struck the rear trailer tires of the Freightliner. Bunnell, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown from the motorcycle and it came to rest facing east in the eastbound lane. The Freightliner came to rest facing west. Courtwright was not injured.

Crash south of Mandaree kills one, injures one

The North Dakota Highway Patrol, along with the McKenzie County Sheriff's Department and Three Affiliated Tribes Police, investigated a fatal crash that happened Sunday at 6:30 a.m. about 2.5 miles south of Mandaree.

Jesse P. Douty, 36, of Hebron, was driving a 2012 Dodge pickup and traveling north on N.D. Highway 22 near milepost 135. Matthew D. Black, 41, of Rathdrum, Idaho, who was driving a 2006 Peterbilt semi-tractor trailer, backed the truck and trailer across N.D. Highway 22 and traveling eastbound. Douty's vehicle struck the trailer that Black's Peterbilt truck was hauling on N.D. Highway 22. Douty's vehicle came to rest facing north and Black's truck came to rest facing west.

Douty was killed, while his passenger, Jesse P. Douty, Jr., 18, of Hebron, was injured.
