James Harris, Minot
Quiet neighborhoods. Oh, where have they gone?
On Sixth Street Southwest, south of Edison School, years ago neighbor kids and I played baseball on the street for hours in the evenings stopping only six vehicles maximum.
Not anymore. Now it is steady traffic.
In traveling through North Dakota every town advises of loud vehicle ordinance and truck-breaking ordinances. That's not so in Minot, and if it is posted, it is not enforced.
U.S. 83 Bypass and the new main fire station south of us is a constant roar of traffic noise and sirens.
Oh, to go back to good old quiet neighborhoods.
What is the fix?
I still pay property taxes and am entitled to quiet, single-family residence ordinances.
