‘Man camp’ in Velva?

August 26, 2012
Minot Daily News

Jane Grunseth, Velva

I feel I have to respond to the letter from Darren Johnson that was in last Sunday's paper regarding the campground in Velva.

I had no idea that Mr. Johnson or anyone else considered this a "man camp."

We live in the campground directly behind Johnson. We are retired and have a home in Arizona, but because we were originally from here, we love to come back to North Dakota for the beautiful summers.

The couple in the next RV are also retired and come here for the same reason.

The next camper is from Bismarck and he is a carpenter. Then we have guys that work at ADM, some are now working on the levee, some are single moms with children who cannot find affordable housing, and so it goes!

Everyone in this park is considerate and come and go with no problems.

The only noise I hear in this camp is Mr. Johnson yelling at his poor dog.

Sorry, Darren, but maybe you shouldn't have built your home next to this park if that is how you feel about it. The campground has been here for several years, and you just built your home last summer.

Take a deep breath and just enjoy where you are at and let us live in peace also.

And by the way is a "man camp" a bad thing? We all have to be somewhere.
