The Minot High School Magician varsity and junior varsity cheer teams received the Universal Cheerleading Association's "Superior Team Award" at a camp held Aug. 14-15 in Minot. The association is the leading instructional and safety camp organization in the U.S.
The team showed excellence in cheers, stunts, dances and jumps, as well as two new routines. The Universal Cheerleading Association instructors were Brittany Cwikla and Nicole Gourneau, both University of North Dakota cheerleaders as well as certified UCA instructors.
Three Minot High School seniors were awarded "All-American" status for solo excellence chants, jumps and extreme routine. The seniors are Cassie Stauffer, Julie Rasanen and Hannah Streccius.

The cheer teams and local rock band "The Cascade Sun" will be featured at the MHS football team's opening game of the 2012 season. This "Maroon Gold BOLD!" rally starts at 7:30 p.m. at Duane Carlson Stadium. Fans are asked to wear school colors and bring balloons for a kickoff balloon release.
