Motor Magic and United Way partner up for third annual Souris Valley United Way Pedal Car Auction. The auction of the customized cars will be held for the third consecutive year on Saturday, Sept. 1, at 4 p.m., during Motor Magic at the North Dakota State Fairgrounds to benefit the United Way.
In 2010, Motor Magic played host to the first auction, which raised $9,100 for the Souris Valley United Way. Businesses, individuals and groups purchased disassembled, primed pedal cars. Those groups then donated their time and talent to customize the cars for auction, resulting in unique items ranging from lowered suspensions, hot rod parts, surfboards and pipeline wrenches among others.
The pedal cars will also be on display at the Motor Magic Classic Car Auction during Labor Day weekend.
All proceeds from the auction will be donated directly to the Souris Valley United Way to be included in the 2012 campaign. The Motor Magic car auction is providing the venue for the auction, a licensed auctioneer and a licensed clerk at no cost.
"In the past two years we've had a lot of success with this auction and we are hoping to raise even more for the community this year," said Patricia Smith, Souris Valley United Way executive director. Smith said the chapter's vision in fulfilling basic human needs encompasses the entire community, bringing it together for the purpose of assisting with food, shelter, wellness, dignity, self-worth and the opportunity to be independent.
