FARGO (AP) - North Dakota Gov. Jack Dalrymple is proposing $545 million in tax cuts and says the state should play a greater role in funding education.
The plan to be considered in the 2013 Legislature includes cuts in property taxes, as well as individual and corporate income taxes. It expands the homestead tax credit for disabled and senior citizens.
Dalrymple wants a 50 percent reduction in the average school district tax levy. He says that would save the owner of a $180,000 home nearly $1,100 in property taxes.
The governor is proposing a $100 million reduction in individual income taxes and a $25 million drop in corporate income taxes.
Dalrymple says the state's prosperity includes more industries than oil, and it's possible to pay for important programs and still provide tax relief.
