Edward and Jackie Bjork, Minot

We recently received a certified letter from the city of Minot informing us of a public meeting and a planning commission meeting regarding the St. John's church property just to the north of the church. Proposed is a zone change and extensive development.

A nice picture of the plan accompanied the letter. The "nice picture" showed one four-story building and two three-story buildings plus an outdoor pool, sport court, two parks, amphitheater, club house, etc. The "nice picture" is beginning to rapidly fade when thinking of all this in the center of single-family homes. This will impact all the areas north, south, east and west and anyone coming into Minot on Fourth Avenue Northwest. That section of Fourth Avenue is two-lane. Can you imagine how many cars will be coming and going to and from this proposed development and no one today has just one car, plus the noise of the outdoor activities.

We were the fourth family to build our home here in 1960 and watched as houses were built across and up and down 25th Street to make a very desirable neighborhood with church and grade school close by. We have been fortunate to enjoy the view and open area of the St. John property for 52 years and realize things do progress and change.

We have no problem with single-family homes being built on this property but this "village" is not a place for this whole section of northwest Minot.

The public meeting is July 30 at 6:30 p.m. in City Council chambers, City Hall, 515-2nd St. SW and the Planning Commission will meet Aug. 6 at 6:30 p.m. at the same location. Please attend and voice your opinion.
