BISMARCK (AP) - The North Dakota Highway Patrol says a Bismarck man who swerved to avoid deer was killed in crash near Steele.

Troopers say 40-year-old Brian Lee Sumner lost control of his pickup on a gravel road Friday night after swerving to miss some deer. The pickup rolled two to three times and came to rest in a ditch.

Troopers say Sumner and his passengers, 47-year-old Kerrie Vester of Tappen and a 9-year-old girl, were not wearing seat belts and were ejected from the pickup.

The patrol says Sumner died at the scene. The passengers were injured and were taken to a Bismarck hospital.
