MANDAN (AP) - The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Northern Great Plains Research Laboratory at Mandan is celebrating its 100th anniversary.
The lab is part of USDA's Agricultural Research Service. It has evolved from doing research on food crops, grazing, windbreaks and forestry to also doing research in such areas as biofuels production and climate change.
The lab is hosting a "Friends and Neighbors Day" on Thursday that is free and open to the public. Among the officials scheduled to attend is Catherine Woteki, the USDA undersecretary for research, education and economics.
