WILLOW CITY - Joseph Pastva Sr., Willow City, died Sunday, May 13, 2012, at the home of his son in East Brunswick, N.J. He was 59.

Born in New Brunswick, he resided in East Brunswick with his wife and children for many years before moving to Willow City in 2005.

He began his career as a military policeman in the Army from 1972-1975, and was stationed at Fort Dix, N.J. Upon being discharged from the Army, he became an officer with the Rutgers University Police Department in New Brunswick for 28 years, retiring as a captain. After moving to North Dakota, he was a zone manager for Walmart in Bottineau.

Throughout his life, he was an active member of a number of organizations, including the American Legion Post 194, Dethman Armstrong, in Rolette, and the Fraternal Order of Police. He was a former assistant scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America Troop 223, and was a vigil honor member of the Order of the Arrow, Narraticong Lodge 9. He was a former assistant troop leader of the Girl Scouts of America Troop 549. He was a co-captain of the Willow City Relay for Life team. He was a member of the Cecil Township Board as a road supervisor in Overly and was a member, and former treasurer, of the Willow City Community Club.

He was a communicant of Notre Dame Catholic Church in Willow City.

He was predeceased by his parents, John Pastva Sr. and Irene Poloskei Pastva.

Surviving are his wife, Diana Lynn Hubbard Pastva, Willow City; a son, Joseph Pastva Jr. and his wife, Kimberlee, of East Brunswick; a daughter, Kimberly Ann Pastva, of Hi-Nella, N.J.; a brother, John Pastva Jr. and his wife, Janet, of Edison, N.J.; and a sister, Mary Ann Duffy and her husband, Tom, of New Jersey.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 19, at 1 p.m., in Rezem Funeral Home, 457 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick.
