LAKE DARLING The Souris River Basin Longbeards group hosted its annual Ice Fishing Derby on the lower end of Lake Darling Jan. 14. A total of 46 two-man teams participated. Due to unpredictable ice conditions, the tournament was restricted to "walk out" only from the tourney headquarters area at Landing No. 3.
The catch total for perch was 181, northern pike 56 and walleye 5. The perch division winners were Cody Pardon and Trevor Gust of Burlington with 13 pounds, 2 ounces. Capturing the northern pike division was the team of Jerrad Lessman and Chazlynn Donovan of Minot with 20 pounds, 3 ounces. Jamie and Wyatt Zietz of Minot won the walleye division with 4 pounds.
The largest perch weighed 12 ounces, caught by the team of David Booth and David West of Minot Air Force Base. The largest northern pike was 10 pounds, 8 ounces. It was brought to the scale by the team of Mark Pierson of Minot and David Vogel of Velva. The No. 1 walleye was 4 pounds and caught by Jamie and Wyatt Zietz.
