STANLEY The title of homecoming king typically goes to a high school senior who has earned the student body's admiration.

At Stanley High School, that would be Charlie Obert.

Obert, who has a form of autism, was named homecoming king Sept. 26 and presided over homecoming events that week along with homecoming queen Liberty Zuchara.

Submitted Photo - - Charlie Obert and Liberty Zuchara were chosen as Homecoming King and Queen at Stanley High School in September.

High school principal Kevin Hoherz said Obert is the type of student who brightens the day of other students, and they wanted to return that favor.

"This is how respected Charlie is by the student body," he said. "They love him that much."

Obert spends much of his day in special classes but takes some courses with his peers.

Jodi Obert said her son has been the recipient of many nice acts from the senior class and other students. On his birthday on Sept. 22, the day before he was nominated to the homecoming court, his class threw a party for him at school. Two recent graduates who were close friends of Charlie also took him to the prom as their date last April.
