September 29, 2011
By DAILY NEWS STAFF , Minot Daily News

The Western Plains Children's Choir (fifth- through seventh-graders) and the Western Plains Youth Ensemble (eighth- through 10th-grades) have joined together to perform at Hstfest. Four alumni -- Maren Livingston, Alex Schoenberg-Carton, Eric Anderson and Krista Sipin -- are featured singing in Swedish. The choir performs onstage in Skein Mezzanine each day at 4:45 p.m.

Included is a variety of Scandinavian folk music accompanied by accordions, fiddles, flutes, cello and piano. The singers dance, sing, act and whistle. They do the schottische and the waltz. Jeanine Engen and Walt Story are guest accordionists from Minnesota. Laurie Verbitsky accompanies on the piano and college assistants Jonathan Clark and Karen Niewoehner lend their instrumental talents.

Special guests Solvei, Christian and Johan Stenslie will join the group for scottische and polka dance exhibitions in the Friday and Saturday performances.
